Pioneer Kids

May 18, 2012

Leave your mark at This Is The Place Heritage Park with a pioneer project!

When:  May 18, 2012, 10:00 a.m.

Where:  This Is The Place Heritage Park, 2601 East Sunnyside Avenue (800 South), Salt Lake City (across the street from Hogle Zoo)

Several hundred elementary school children from around the Salt Lake Valley gather to enjoy some fresh spring air while white washing a fence or staining a lamp post, pulling weeds or planting flowers.  They visit buildings from Utah’s pioneer days and absorb a little historical insight at This Is The Place Heritage Park .  Work becomes fun as today’s children emulate what pioneer kids did decades ago.  The spring spruce-up provided through Pioneer Kids is a highlight for the school participants and their supervisors, and also for the Park’s volunteer personnel who experience a preview of the crowds they will entertain daily during the new season.  It’s a win-win for everyone.  Best of all, the kids take home a new appreciation for community service and a Days of ‘47 t-shirt to remember it all.

Schools who wish to participate in 2011 should contact the Pioneer Kids chair, Joyce Ellertson, as early as possible.  The event is hosted by This Is The Place Heritage Park and is a marvelous opportunity for school children to visit the Park, ride the new miniature trains and get a taste of pioneering — all in one morning.

Contact Joyce Ellertson, Pioneer Kids Event Chair, at 801.451.0235 to see if your school can join the festivities at This Is The Place Heritage Park on May 18th, 2012.
